What we do

Coach Preparation Program

We prepare both currently incarcerated, returned citizens and justice impacted youth for careers as professional fitness Coaches.

Trainees earn a stipend of $20 per session for their time both shadowing and in the classroom. In either program, our members learn through classroom and practical application over 9-12 months.

Our course work is challenging and thorough as we balance both the personal skills with the knowledge of movement and nutrition to empower our Coaches upon graduation.

We cover the costs of certification ($500) through a partnership with the ISSA (International Sports Science Association) as well as CPR certification.

Graduates also gain access to job placement relationships with gym chains.

Community fitness classes

Once certified, UliftU Coaches start at $25/hour to lead free classes in some of the areas of North Philadelphia with the highest incidence of chronic disease and lowest life expectancy. We believe that by making high quality coaching of physical health and nutrition accessible, we can shift public health. Our graduates are poised to be uniquely successful due to the fact that many of them grew up in the same areas where they are now leading a healthy change.

Personal Training

Our certified Coaches are available for personal or group training sessions. Coaches start earning $20-$40 per session from personal training. These sessions are coached by trainees with programming written and observed by UliftU certified Coaches.

We’ve worked with companies and individuals to deliver high quality fitness programming. Contact us to learn how we can help you or your company.

Justice involved youth

In June of 2021 we launched Ulift-Youth, a partnership with Northeast Treatment Center to pair justice involved youth with UliftU trainees and Graduates. On a weekly basis, kids currently on juvenile probation have the chance to build teamwork, trust and community with the leadership of our Coaches.
